We annually offer senior wellness plans because we believe a full workup is the best way to ensure your cat lives the longest, happiest and healthiest life they deserve.

How to spot signs of ageing?

Cats are masters of disguise and will hide their signs of illness or pain as long as they possibly can. Watch for subtle changes in behaviour (like being more or less social than normal), mobility (like not jumping quite so high, or taking the stairs a little slower), grooming habits, appetite & thirst (up or down), and litter-box use (or lack thereof).

My senior cat is losing weight, what can I do?

If your cat is visibly losing weight, it is time for a check-up. Even a loss of a few ounces (which generally isn’t noticeable to the naked eye) can be significant in a cat – making it all the more important to have your senior cat weighed and examined at least once, but ideally twice per year. The earlier we catch diseases, the more successful we are at treating them.

How can I care for my senior cat?

The best thing you can do for your senior cat is have him/her examined 1-2 times a year, where you can discuss any changes before they become significant. At home, ensuring they are well groomed, providing soft bedding, lots of water and elevated food/water dishes can help keep them comfortable as well.

What are some common health issues?

We see arthritis, thyroid disease, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, dental disease, high blood pressure, and cancer quite commonly in ageing cats.

Why is my senior cat having behavioural issues?

Changes in behaviour are often signals to underlying diseases. If any change is not temporary, please make an appointment to have your cat thoroughly examined.
