Maintaining oral health is equally important for your pet as it is for humans.
In recent years, it has become very clear that good oral health is an indicator of general well-being of our companion dogs. At-home oral care is just as important as feeding and brushing your four-legged friend.
At Briarwood Animal Hospital, we offer many services to help keep your pet dog’s mouth as healthy as possible. We have experience and can give recommendations on how to brush your pet’s teeth, as well as guidance on the various dental care products available on the market. We are also able to perform comprehensive oral health evaluations, which include assessing the health of the entire oral cavity, removing any diseased teeth, and performing dental x-rays.
Ideally your canine companion should have his/her teeth brushed daily as it doesn’t take long for plaque to become tartar. In some cases, it may be an impossibility for an owner to brush so we may need to introduce other methods such as a new diet or water additives to keep those pearly whites glistening.
Oral health is important for your pet’s whole-body health. When a pet has dental disease, their bodies are constantly being exposed to bacteria, which increases the workload of the liver and kidneys, their main filtering organs. Dental disease can also make regulating other diseases, like diabetes, more difficult, and dogs with dental disease are often times painful, which impacts their quality of life.
