Fleas and ticks bring discomfort and disease, highlighting the need for consistent prevention.
Flea and tick prevention and treatments are always improving. There are a variety of options from topical to oral administration. Even the frequency at which the product needs to be applied varies. Flea and tick control is tailored to you and your dog’s lifestyle. These products are very effective and generally easy to give.
A dog who has fleas is often an itchy dog. Sometimes you can see live fleas running around on your dog, and sometimes you can see flea dirt, darkly coloured “speckles” on your dog’s skin. Ticks are not itchy, and owners will often only find ticks on their dog while they are petting or grooming them.
There are many effective products available from your veterinarian to help prevent and treat fleas and ticks on your dog. There are both oral and topical therapies available. Please contact your veterinarian to discuss which product is right for you and your pet.
If you find a tick on your pet, it is recommended that you bring them in to have it removed. Our staff is trained to identify whether the tick could be a Lyme carrier that should be sent away for testing.
